Expanding existing rooftop spaces
Your deck worked when you built it, but needs change. Maybe you've added an outdoor kitchen and now the seating area feels cramped. Perhaps you want space for a hot tub or fire pit. Roof deck extensions add square footage to existing decks—typically expanding 150-300 square feet into 400-600 square feet of usable outdoor living space. Before building onto unused rooftop area, we verify the roof structure can support the additional 55 PSF load requirement.
The challenge with deck extensions isn't just building more deck—it's making the addition invisible. Sunlight and weathering create color differences between old and new materials, and mismatched railings announce that something was added later. We source decking from matching product lines, fabricate railings to identical specifications, and when necessary, refinish or resurface existing surfaces so the entire deck presents as one cohesive space.
Extensions also create an opportunity to address what the original deck lacked. We can run electrical for outlets and lighting, rough in gas for grilling, or add structural support for features the original design couldn't accommodate. The extended deck functions better than the original—more space, more features, and the same unified appearance it had on day one.
