Outlets, switches, dedicated circuits
A well-equipped roof deck or patio needs more than a single outdoor outlet. Built-in grills require 20-amp dedicated circuits. Hot tubs demand 50-amp 240-volt service. Outdoor refrigerators, heaters, TVs, and sound systems each add load that your existing panel may not support. Planning electrical capacity upfront prevents costly retrofits and ensures every appliance gets the power it needs.
Current NEC code requires all outdoor receptacles to have GFCI protection and weather-resistant ratings. Outlets in exposed locations need extra-duty in-use covers that maintain weatherproofing even when equipment is plugged in. Wiring must be rated for wet locations—UF-B cable underground or properly conduit-protected runs to junction boxes. These requirements apply whether your deck is a covered pergola space or fully open to the elements.
We design outdoor electrical systems around how you will actually use the space. That means placing outlets where grills and prep stations will live, running dedicated circuits for high-draw appliances, and ensuring enough lighting circuits for both task and ambient lighting. Licensed electricians handle all installation and permit coordination with Chicago inspectors.
