Complex elevated deck configurations
A single flat deck limits how you use your rooftop. Multi-level systems create distinct zones—an elevated dining platform, a sunken lounge with fire feature, a mid-level bar area—each defined by elevation rather than walls. Two-tier layouts work for smaller rooftops; three-level systems can accommodate separate spaces for cooking, dining, and relaxation on larger properties. Changes in elevation add architectural interest and naturally guide traffic flow between zones.
Every level in a multi-tier system carries independent structural requirements. Each platform must support minimum 50 PSF loads, with stairs designed to code specifications: 36-inch minimum width, 7¾-inch maximum risers, 10-inch minimum treads. Guardrails at 36 inches with 4-inch baluster spacing protect level transitions. We engineer the supporting structure for each tier independently, then design the stair and transition connections that tie the system together safely.
The result is a rooftop that functions like a series of outdoor rooms. Upper levels catch breezes and skyline views. Lower levels create intimate conversation spaces. Stairs become design features rather than afterthoughts, with options for floating treads, cable railings, or built-in lighting. Each level serves its purpose while the complete system works as unified outdoor living space.
